5.0 out of 5 stars A text book for student and practitioner, 6 Mar. 2006
This review is from: Introduction to Health and Safety in Construction: The handbook for construction professionals and students on NEBOSH and other construction courses (Paperback)
Technical books fulfil two main purposes. They are either a basis of study for the student preparing for exams or they are where busy practitioners go to find quick answers to unfamiliar problems. Many text books do not do both. This one does. I have a shelf full of turgid books essential to the student but which remain largely unread and rarely consulted. Whilst modestly describing itself as an introduction to the subject, I am sure many practitioners would agree that this work covers as much of it as they are likely to need. I have possessed mine for only two months yet already it is a constant companion. It is most attractively presented with many colour illustrations, charts and schedules. The chapter topics are well chosen and apposite. Each chapter is split into short digestible sections and best of all, the index has not let me down yet. Towards the end of the book is an invaluable 85 page, easily navigated, chapter on the main legal requirements governing the subject. Aimed at covering the NEBOSH syllabus, the content is necessarily comprehensive. At the same time it is accessible and guides the busy practitioner quickly to assistance on the subject matter before him. I can well recommend this book to all in the Construction Industry who seek an attractively presented, clear, concisely written but nonetheless full guide to a subject now so dominant in the design and exection of its products.

This is the bible of health and safety in construction. An absolute must for all industry professionals and NEBOSH students. If you only buy one health and safety book about construction make it this one.

I bought this book while studying for the NEBOSH National Diploma. Its an excellent source of information on Construction Safety. Although aimed at students preparing for the NEBOSH Construction Certificate ,this book is very useful background reading for Diploma students, particularly those involved in construction. The industry has undergone considerable change in health and safety regulation over the last ten years in an effort to reduce the appalling accident rates. This has resulted in many new pieces of legislation and this book explains the implications of new legislation in a clear and concise manner. Thoroughly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Intro to Health & Safety in construction, 20 Aug. 2011
Excellent book, good preparation for the Nebosh Construction Certificate course. Hughes & Ferrett are veterans at health & safety - can't go wrong. Although I now have the 4th edition, which is just as good.
