5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliantly funny
A lot of what is written is common sense but it's written in a really funny and matter-of-fact way. Can read this in one evening and just gives you that ick up the bum to getting organised and back on track!

1.0 out of 5 stars Very disappointing
Having enjoyed Sarah Ivens' guide to modern etiquette, I was looking forward to what I hoped would be a practical and useful guide to self-management. However, I found the advice to be extremely basic and also rather patronising: do 'modern girls' really need to know how to 'manage' their men by letting them think they make all the decisions? And recommending that you...

And recommending that you spend your lunch hour window shopping to pass the time when you're broke is downright dangerous for the impoverished modern girl's debt! If you want advice on managing your finances then look at Paula Hawkins or Smita Talati's books instead, and go to Ros Jay in the business section for genuinely useful help with personal and professional management. Give this one a miss unless you really need to be told that you should dust before you vaccuum...

1.0 out of 5 stars Patronising, banal and obvious advice., 19 Sep 2010
This review is from: A Modern Girl's Guide To Getting Organised: How to save time and stress and avoid sleepless nights (Paperback)
She states that facials are a monthly necessity, thinks a 6-hour working day is long and offered the worst advice on talking your boyfriend out of buying the latest must-have gadget that I've ever heard. Nobody needs a list of advice on "how to lie in", especially one that lists "turn off the alarm clock". Thanks for that tip, Professor!

If you're an underintelligent sloane with OCD and a generous monthly allowance from Daddy, you may conceivably enjoy this book. Otherwise, steer well clear, unless you find a charity shop copy for 50p and want to spend a couple of hours marvelling at who Sarah Ivens must have gone to school with to have got such a load of tosh published.

I wholeheartedly agree with the other reveiwer. This book is not worth the cost of buying it nor the effort of reading it. It really doesn't tell you anything anyone with common sense would not not already know. It is like an article in a women's magazine, only extended to (try and) fill a whole book. Not recommended. There are far better books out there to help with time management and household organisation.

4.0 out of 5 stars Useful for quick ideas, 28 May 2014
This review is from: A Modern Girl's Guide To Getting Organised: How to save time and stress and avoid sleepless nights (Paperback)
I have had this hanging around on my bookshelf for some time and read it this week. Lots of the advice I have read before, or is common sense, and some of it I wasn't interested in (I don't have children and I don't want to manage my partner, he can sort himself out!). I did like a lot of the ideas however, and I thought reading some of the bite-size snippets really useful, for example keeping a to-do list in a book rather than random bits of paper, planning for Christmas, and will definitely "get a man in" to clean my oven! Quick and simple ideas to help me focus. I liked it.
