Wanted an inexpensive book which showed the places to visit in Istanbul and this book certainly covered everything we needed to know for a 5 day trip. The best 25 places to visit were colour coded at the beginning of the book, so easy to find in the small map and larger map folded in its own pocket. Each area of Istanbul was in its own section, with descriptions of where to visit, cost and access, plus lots of other facts on eating, shopping etc. Istanbul is a great place to visit as the metro system is extremely frequent and very cheap! Would not hesitate to recommend this book as it was packed with useful information about every aspect of the city.

Excellent guide, not big or heavy with great maps, including a removable one of the city. The only criticism is that the place names are in Turkish, such as Sultanahmet Camii which is the Blue Mosque, so read it carefully to familiarise yourself with the names. There is also a good map of the tram route with the names of the stops which you will find displayed on the screens in the trams. Try and read it thoroughly before going into the city as it's difficult to stop and do that whilst there due to the crowds and carpet shop touts who will try and give you directions to the sights, then get you to go to their shops. Well worth the money.

I have three guides to Istanbul (also DK Eyewitness and Frommer's) and this is by far the best, and one of the best travel guides to any city that I have read.

It comes with a pull out map (shiny durable and water resistant paper)

It has 25 top sights to see in Istanbul, and lots of useful info on each of them. Perhaps best of all there are clear grid references in the book for all sites and attractions to match the map for ease of reference

There are clear guides to all the different areas, and restaurant suggestions for each area.

It doesn't have lots of detail on the history or culture of Istanbul, or in depth info about the tourist sites to the extent of gallery guides of the museums like the DK eyewitness book does, but I don't ususally spend much time reading about the history and culture in travel guides. I use them to plan itineries for my trip, and this is why I think this guide is the best. Easy simple layout and straight to the point!

bought this book as was visiting Istanbul for the first time for one day only on a cruise stop - good handbag size, very handy with lots of tips and ideas, the map was very useful too, divided into sections for different parts of the city which was a great help, would highly recommend

This is a very compact and light book easy to pack in your luggage. I rally like the suggested walks taking in the important sites.

I like the AA city pack guides especially the maps that are now included. Useful information about where to visit and transport systems as well as good places to eat and stay.

Very handy, handbag sized book. The map is very good, much better than the free one the hotel gave us. Nothing in any depth, but well laid out, and helpful.

This is the second book in the series that I have purchased, Paris being the 1st.
They are worth every penny and have already bought one for my next visit, to Istanbul.
