This is a charming little book. It gives a general overview of the history and current circumstances of London's Docklands and immediate hinterlands.
It is a good guide for walking the era or visiting specific sites, small and light enough to carry with on the visit, yet in depth enough to be a valuable read.
Useful for overseas or London based tourists alike.
Well written and manageable, with nice historical and current photos.
Like another review mentions, the glaring omission is a map of the area.
I can only guess that the licensing fees for a map were too expensive for the publisher.
But it is a not a major problem, as one can carry a pocket map of London.

This is a guidebook, but contains no map to show the realtive locations of the various docks. The lack of a map is a glaring omission, since a map would give context to the descriptions.

Also, Wapping and St. Catherine's Dock is completely ignored. While only one part of the large docklands area, St. Catherine's Dock is the nearest part to the main tourist trail at The Tower.

For anyone wanting to look at London's river both as it is now and how it developed this is a useful guide.Small enough to take in your pocket and giving enough information to enable the reader to map some interesting walks starting/ending at convenient Dockland Light Railway stations.

I bought this book as a pocket reference to assist me in planning a photographic project capturing images of docklands. The book also provides an historical context. I was not dissapointed.
