5.0 out of 5 stars great
Unbelievably this the only available book on this subject.
Allowing for the absence of any competition to compare it to, it is well written, well illustrated and for its size gives a surprisingly good introduction to a fascinating subject.

3.0 out of 5 stars Excellent for History - Not too good for Identification
This little book gives a good deal of the history involved with the development of locks and to a certain degree keys. This review is from: Keys: Their History and Collection (Shire Library) (Paperback)
This little book gives a good deal of the history involved with the development of locks and to a certain degree keys. The ageing of keys which is probably the desire of every collector is not covered in detail c.f. pages 64-68 which shows line drawings of typical keys through the ages but the reader is left guessing as to the specific age of the individuals pictured. Very little information is given on to what to look for to age a key. Prices are discussed in a general way but are now out of date. Little information regarding the best ways to clean or display keys is given. Overall it is an interesting book but it does have shortcomings for the collector.

4.0 out of 5 stars Keys Old and even older..., 7 Oct 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I enjoyed this book. The illustration are particularly interesting. Filled a gap in my mechanically knowledge . Even the "modern" yale was well covered.
