This review is from: The Shadow of Kilimanjaro: On Foot Across East Africa (Paperback)
A vey well written book on tracking from the mountain of Kili down to the Tsavo plains and then walking through the Kenyan countryside through the Taru desert towards the coast. Facing the danger of the wild life and the Woodley brothers tracking Rick. It is a very enjoyable book and one wants to continue reading it, even when tired.
It talks about the bush, the animals and the poeple they meet on their way and also about hte history of the places in Tsavo and the Galana river.
Having born in Kenya and visited these places on Safari, and stayed in the Lodges, I could fully feel the excitment and pleasure of the animals and the Kenyan countryside.
Read the book and enjoy.

I read this book while I was travelling in Tanzania. It was really an exciting book to read and I felt very empty when I had finished. I found the people in the book interesting because I had met them in other books about that area of Africa.

It is such a shame that things are in decline with the animals at the moment - it is like reading about a bygone era.

An incredibly endearing, intelligent and balanced account of an epic walk across East Africa. With evident love for the country in which he is walking, Ridgeway combines beautiful descriptions of the landscape with excellent historic anecdotes whilst travelling amongst some living legends of Kenya. A wonderful read and a book I truthfully did not want to end.
