In my opinion, this is the best account of the life and crimes of Fredrick West and the cruelty that went on in 25 Cromwell Street. Geoffrey Wansell paints a detailed and vivid picture of the life of Fred West, from his family and upbringing to the rape, torture and murder he devoted his life to. The book offers psychological analysis throughout the book, with constant...

1.0 out of 5 stars not very good !
Sorry but this is one of the worse written books I have read, and I read a lot of true crime, for a start he gets a lot of facts wrong, it was proven that rose west killed Charmaine whilst fred was in prison, and another thing that annoyed me was how many times in every chapter the words "in the months leading up to his death," he said it so many times in each chapter it...

The book offers psychological analysis throughout the book, with constant reference and quotations from the various members of the West family.
I have read many books on the crimes of the West's and I personally feel that this is the best account. The content of the book is the most disturbing and graphic I have encountered, so therefore I would not recommend this book to the fainthearted amongst us. This book will shock, sicken, disturb and even anger you, but it is an important book, allowing the reader to try and understand the cruelty man is capable of.

Have read this book about 4 times now, brilliantly written. Think I bought it second hand on Amazon years ago but in good condition and great price. If you enjoy the subject matter and not squeamish, I would recommend it. A real insight into Fred and Rose's lives

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Book on The West's, 21 Mar. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: An Evil Love: The Life of Frederick West (Hardcover)
Probably the best book I have read on the subject matter. Of particular note is the attention to detail and captivating writing style that make this book so riveting. Wansell has written a monumental book and this should be where every reader interested in the West's and 25 Cromwell Street should begin. I cannot praise this book enough. More than any other, it brings to life the "evil love" of Fred and Rose West and the tragic women (and possibly men) who died at their hands. For those of a sensitive disposition I would suggest caution - Geoffrey Wansell does not flinch in illustrating what may have happened to those poor women in the cellar of 25 Cromwell Street - so be warned that it is raw and horrific. The truth is, we really don't know exactly what happened to them: we have fragments of truth from Fred West and incidental evidence.

Wansell opening words on the case are important because the reader will almost certainly sympathise with his perspective and the humanity.

A profound book that will stay with you long after you finish it.

How and why did Fred West become the serial killer he did. Essential reading for those interested in criminal psychology.
