5.0 out of 5 stars Based on the story by the Brothers Grimm, 19 Mar 2009
This review is from: The Golden Goose (USBORNE First Reading: Level 3) (Hardcover)
retold by Conrad Mason for the Usborne First Reading series of books.

USBORNE FIRST READING is graded into FOUR levels - this particular book is LEVEL 3.

Durable board covers open to 48 high quality shiny pages in the popular 2-page spread format.
Numbered pages.
Beautifully illustrated throughout by Mike and Carl Gordon and further enhanced by relevant expressions and speech bubbles.
Complete with bright yellow ribbon bookmark!

The first two pages introduce the main characters.

Example of text:-

'There was once a woodcutter, who had three sons.
Roland was strong.
Donald was handsome.
But Billy.....
.....wasn't strong OR handsome.

One day, the woodcutter became ill.
"Who will go to the forest to chop wood?" he said.......'

Who indeed?

First, by default.....the oldest.......
...then, the most handsome.........and...
finally.......poor Billy(who was neither)!

However, a strange little man has a hand in the sticky outcome, and a kindness is eventually repaid in a rather handsome way!

Super version guaranteed to bring a smile to the younger reader, especially when the various characters become too attached to the golden goose!

Other titles from LEVEL THREE include:-

The Fish That Talked
The Dinosaur Who Lost His Roar
The Gingerbread Man
The Goose that laid the Golden Eggs
The Little Red Hen
The Enormous Turnip
