This particular book is from SERIES ONE, which combines good stories with easy reading text and is designed for readers who have just started reading alone.

From the last page :-

`The tale of `The Sorcerer's Apprentice' has been around for almost 2000 years. It was first written down by a Greek named Lucian of Samosata. This version is based on a poem composed in 1797 by the German writer, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe.'

From the back cover:-

`Max is learning to be a sorcerer and can't wait to try out some magic on his own. Left alone in the castle one day, he grabs his chance. And Max's spell works very well - until he finds he can't stop it. He is in big trouble now...'

Durable board covers open to 48 shiny high quality pages, split into 5 chapters:-

Chapter 1 - A task for Max
Chapter 2 - Max's plan

Example of text:-

from Chapter 1:-

`Max had spent all morning cleaning the sorcerer's workshop - and he still hadn't finished.
"How will I ever learn to be a sorcerer like Sticklewick?" he moaned. "He never lets me do any magic."
Just then, Max heard footsteps on the stone staircase.
"Uh-oh, that's him! Back to work."
A moment later, Sticklewick appeared. "Max, I have to go into town," he announced, waving a long shopping list......'

What an opportunity for Max who had never been left on his own in the castle before...and he grasps it with both hands!

But, oh dear........despite the warning about NOT trying any tricks, and ignoring Tabitha the Toad's advice, the lazy Max casts a spell which makes a broomstick fill the water tank for him.
And it does.........
.....again and again and again............
With water pouring across the floor......how can Max make it stop?
Er...... can he?
More troubled waters are ahead when his main attempt is thwarted as one becomes two!
Then Sticklewick arrives back.........

Will Max be turned into a tadpole, as threatened?
