Chapter 1

'A piece of wood':-

Once upon a time there was....a piece of wood.
Lying in the corner of the carpenter's workshop, it looked just like any other piece of wood.
The carpenter's name was Mr Cherry and he needed a table leg.
"Perfect!" he said, catching sight of the wood.
He rested it against his workshop and picked up a chisel.
As the chisel touched the wood, a voice cried out, "Don't hurt me!"
Mr Cherry looked up in surprise.
He was alone in the room.
"I must be imaging things," he thought.
But when he tried again, tapping the chisel against the wood, someone screamed........'

This is indeed no ordinary piece of wood....it is a talking piece of wood and can be rather rude, to say the least.... as it turns out!
Mr Cherry is quite relieved to see the back of it, as his friend Gepetto strolls away clutching it!

But this is just the beginning of VERY strange things happening!

My 6 year old son absolutely loves this book and he has collected at least 12 of them in the series. This series of books is brilliant as they are tailored towards the young reader's ability. He really enjoys 'chapter books' and the first thing he does is see how many the book has. He knew the story from school but said he preferred this one as the pictures were nicer and it was split up into chapters.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pinocchio, 27 July 2011
This review is from: Pinocchio: Gift Edition (Young reading) (Hardcover)
This is a delightful retelling of Carlo Collodi's famous story. Written in simple, understandable language, it manages to convey the humour and drama of the original Italian. The illustrations are wonderful. My grandchildren (5 and 4) adore it, and want to hear it over and over again. Great fun, especially if you fancy yourself as a thespian and enjoy reading to children. A lovely gift, and highly recommended.
