This review is from: Stories of Giants (Usborne young reading: Series one) (Paperback)
from the 'Usborne Young Reading' series of books, which combines good stories with easy reading text.

'Usborne Young Reading Books are carefully graded into levels: - Series One, Two and Three and cover a wide range of subjects to suit all interests and abilities.'

This particular book is from SERIES ONE, which is aimed at readers who have just started reading alone.

From the back cover:-

'Some giants are naughty, some are foolish, but they're all BIG.
These tales tell how a kind giant called a troll helped a poor fisherman, and how three wicked giants met a grisly end.'

Colourful paperback covers open to 48 high quality matt pages, split into 3 chapters:-

All kinds of giants
Jon and the green troll
The princess and the giants

Numbered pages. Illustrated throughout this book is enhanced by meaningful expressions, easy-to-follow-text and some speech bubbles.

Example of text:-

From Chapter 2

'Jon and the green troll
Once, there was a poor farmer. His wife was dead.
He lived with his only son, Jon, by the mountains in Scotland.
In the spring and summer, Jon and his father worked hard in the fields.
In the autumn, they closed the farm and went down to the sea, to fish.
But, one year, Jon's father felt too old for the trip.
"You'll have to go alone," he said to Jon.
"Just remember one thing," he warned.
"Don't stop at the big, black rock. That's where the trolls live."....'

So...Jon sets out alone, but as a storm forces him to take cover, he forgets his father's warning...........
However, a good deed pays off in a very big way, as we find out at the end of this busy chapter!

A list of other stories in the same series appears at the very end of the book.
