4.0 out of 5 stars Fascinating Usborne picture book, 10 Sept. 2009
This review is from: What Were Castles For? (Usborne Starting Point History) (Paperback)
Lots of detail in the pictures to keep children occupied. Lots of different things to look for within the pictures too. The book covers all the key castle areas with just enough information for 6-10 year olds to understand easily. Focuses on the lives of different people within the castle and the function of each area.

5.0 out of 5 stars Educational and entertaining, 15 Nov. 2010

This book is just what every curious child will love. Every two pages present a question at the top of the page which is answered through text and illustrations. Other related questions add details to the topic and a few to-do activities guarantee some extra fun. The internet links suggested for each topic are simply great, offering a chance to actively explore more about a castle and its inhabitants. The language is comprehensible to young children and each section gives a lively picture of all the routines and events that involved the people living there. A delightful book which will attract the attention of grown-ups as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars A real bonus for teachers!, 19 Mar. 2011

This book is a great resource on its own but with the internet links it has provided an independent research opportunity for my year 2 pupils. It would work with years 3 or 4 too in my opinion. Great ideas, great information with enough detail to get the kids hooked.

Great book with cutaways to look inside castles and what happens in them. Lots of information and little funny bits within drawings that would appeal to small boys in particular.
