This review is from: Conversations with Zygmunt Bauman (PCVS-Polity Conversations Series) (Paperback)
Having just read a significant amount of Bauman's work for a post-graduate essay, I was not sure what use this conversation format could serve in comparison with the other texts. In fact, the book proved to be a wonderfully helpful summary of Bauman's thought when used alongside the primary texts. Conversations with Zygmunt Bauman proves what the primary texts already demonstrated - that Bauman is a great thinker of remarkable breadth and depth; as at ease in talking about the structural changes in society at the advent of 'solid' modernity as he is at describing the ethics and moral quandries brought about by 'liquid' modernity.
Generally shy of definitions, here Bauman offers a summary of ethics, society and culture within a few paragraphs. The book deals with the areas of ethics, ambivalence and individuality that are so common in Bauman's thought. For anyone interested in an in-depth examination of Bauman's long career, this book would be a great read.
