5.0 out of 5 stars Best Book on WW1?, 7 Nov. 2007

This is a fascinating book which gives a broad history of the social events that took place in the UK between 1914 and the period just after WW1. It is the best book that I have read dealing with the causes and effects of the war at micro and macro level. Plenty of information about the key battles and conflicts, and also a great deal about the social effects in the UK. A marvellous book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Massive history of WW1, 29 Nov. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Outstanding coverage of WW1 from the British perspective. Covers both the military campaigns and the home front. I was pleased that it didn't pursue the 'Lions led by donkeys' theme which has been prevalent in so many military histories of the war.
