5.0 out of 5 stars Lovely, funny and magical, 21 Mar. 2002
By A Customer
A must for anyone. My daughter has all four books in the series and this is a favourite. Munch, munch, with the picnic lunch. Laughs and giggles as the naughty doggy waits for his moment to run off to each the lunch. Not to be missed - highly recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars Oh dear - a recipe for disaster with, 28 Jan. 2008
This review is from: This is the Bear and the Picnic Lunch (Paperback)
a lovable bear, his owner, a mischievous dog and.... a picnic!
Before they even set out.....the bear gets a little bored, the dog gets a little naughty ......then they conspire......and the boy tries to be angry.....

But............ don't worry - it is all right in the end!

Large paperback format, 26 pages in the popular `two-page spread' format, with rhyming couplets.
Superb pastel illustrations throughout, from Helen Craig.
Easy-to-read large text makes this a useful book for
beginner readers ..... and this delightful book is further enhanced by speech bubbles and meaningful facial expressions from the characters.

Main text example:-

'This is the boy
who packed the lunch
of sandwiches, crisps and an apple to crunch.
This is the bear
who guarded the box
while the boy went to find
his shoes and his socks...
This is the dog
who sneaked past the chair......'

My daugher is now 15 months and has loved this since she was old enough to sit up. Our original copy came from the library but proved so popular we had to get one of own.
The story is set in rhyming couplets, and allows the reader to add emphasis and pace as events unfold. The illustrations are brilliant and reinforce the story wonderfully.
Very highly recommended, especially as a book for bedtime but also any other time!

5.0 out of 5 stars This is the bear and the picnic lunch, 31 Jan. 2012
This review is from: This is the Bear and the Picnic Lunch (Paperback)
Love all the This is the bear books. Simple sing song rhyme, easy to read, great for little ones as it moves along so they don't lose interest. With my own children and now my grandchild,I foud=nd that they learnt the words off by heart and would recite and 'read' them as I read them. Always asked to be read again and again. Also got, this is the bear who fell in the bin, another fun story with excellent illustrations.
