3.0 out of 5 stars Book
As you forwarded this book along with four others to my Granddaughters in Malaysia I really cannot comment on the content or substance of the stories contained therein, so a sensible appreciation of them would have to be done by the recipients.

5.0 out of 5 stars Entertaining, just excellent!, 4 Oct 2003
This review is from: Groosham Grange (Paperback)
This book was given to me at Christmas in 95/6, and I couldnt wait to read it cover to cover! By new year, it was completely finished. It was a really exciting book, and amusingly scary. David Eliot's parents are very eccentric and a very odd couple, and David is the only sane one in the house! We hear about the new friends he makes, and the strange customs at the new school - signing the school contract in blood, and never seeing the headmaster (see the front cover - that's why!) Truly excellent and thoroughly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars My School Review, 19 Oct 2005
By
This review is from: Groosham Grange (Paperback)
This book is a must read! It's funny and scary but also brilliant. Once you start reading it you will never stop!

I loved this book when I first read it and immediately read the next one. Its supernatural but so are the parent. But it almost makes the story better. I recommended Anthony Horowitz to my brother and he has almost read all his books and is waiting for the new Alex Rider! This story gives you the shivers but also keeps you laughing for hours so don't get put off by the front cover.

This book is mainly about a boy called David Elliot who gets expelled form his old school Beton collage. His new school is just weird! It's situated on an island that isn't on the map. With his best friends Jill and Jeffery they try to figure out the mysteries of Groosham Grange but they do not know what they are getting into. All the teachers are weird and so are the boys. But Jeffery suddenly changes he now is wearing a black ring. Then David escapes he steels Captain Bloodbaths boat and heads for Norfolk. But in the library he finds a book on Groosham Grange and finds out all its secrets.

I would highly recommend this book to 8-12 year olds it had me laughing for ages but maybe not for those who are lovers of Animal Hospitals you might not find it very interesting. It's a really good book and I hope lots of people enjoyed it just as much as me!

5.0 out of 5 stars A funny ,violent book, 26 Aug 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Groosham Grange (Paperback)
Horowitz has a good mind for childrens books. He writes them so well you think he was one!. The book has an unusual quality of making you laugh at violent parts. At the start, David's( the main character) father throws a knife at him but his mother jumps in front of him and gets 6 inches into her own chest!! I thought that was quite funny because he carried on like it was normal. I give it 10/10

5.0 out of 5 stars When all begins, 20 Jun 2007
This review is from: Groosham Grange (Paperback)
It is the first book I read of Anthony Horowitz, and it will not be the last. This book goes back to 1983 and yet all the ingredients having made the success of Harry Potter are already in this novel! There are mystery, suspense, bounces, sympathetic characters, all played on nerves, in an opaque and oppressive atmosphere. I was not totally captured at the beginning, but then I couldn't help to raise my nose from this book!

4.0 out of 5 stars Groosham Grange book review, 19 Oct 2005
By
This review is from: Groosham Grange (Paperback)
Horowitz has truly made a masterpiece of 'Groosham Grange'. This a novel about three children all sent to the same school by their heartless parents. The school is strange and David, Jill and Jeffery can't figure out what it is. But when something happens to Jeffery, David and Jill have to find out what is happening at this abnormal school before it's too late.

This book is set on an island just off the coast of a Norfolk. 'Groosham Grange' is a realistic because of the real places for example: Hunstandon and Norfolk.

'Groosham Grange' is such a brilliant story that you just want to read and read it all day long. This book has a humours, witty and thrilling narrative. It also includes magic and a spooky setting. 'Groosham Grange' is a new 'Harry Potter' but a more bloodthirsty and depressing ending.

Characters:

David: David is a twelve year old boy. He lives with his mother and father in a medium sized house. David has just been expelled from his old school (Beton collage) and his father is not too happy about it. But when the letter arrives, Mr. Elliot is pleased. David is sent off at once. But does David like the school as much as his father does????

Jill: Jill is a twelve year old girl. She lives alone with her nanny. Jill's parents are always busy. Jill's mother is a actress and once, she saw Jill in the street and didn't recognise her. Her father, as soon as he saw the letter he jumped to it.

Jeffery: Jeffery is a twelve year old boy. He is fat and has a stutter. He is the sort of boy who would be bullied. Of course Jeffery was bullied and when he was expelled from his school, he father received the letter. Jeffery's father sent him to Groosham Grange in hope of toughening him up. But did it work???

This novel is a cliff-hanger and a must-read. It is for ages 8+ (intermediate readers) and they will be sitting on the edge of their seats reading it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Exciting and challenging, 16 Jan 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Groosham Grange (Paperback)
I use Anthony Horowitz books, including this one, for reluctant readers. The stories are so exciting that they want to find out what happens, even though the words may prove a real challenge to them.
A word of warning, though: this is more Roald Dahl than JK Rowling. Although most children love it, the sensitive ones may find it rather frightening.

5.0 out of 5 stars Groosham Grange, 11 Oct 2000

This review is from: Groosham Grange (Paperback)
An amazing book. It is about a boy who gets expelled from a school. Unfortunatly, his parents are not to happy about it. They both beleive in discipline for children, such as wacking them with a stick, or making them drink a gallon of petrol. Basically, they love torchure. Anyway, when David goes off to this weird school, named Groosham Grange. He realises that it is not his kind of school. He confonts human werewolfs, vampire teachers , and a two headed headmaster! David worked out that if you stay too long, you will be turned into a zombie, who sleeps whenever they have spare time. David and his best friend Jill try their best to escape from it, but is it possible?

5.0 out of 5 stars A truly great book., 3 Jan 2004
This review is from: Groosham Grange (Paperback)
This book is a bit wacky, but apart from that it is very good.
In the first chapter you meet the family of David, they are very wierd and seem to not care about being stabbed with a knife, as a desperate meseour after david is expeled from school they send him Groosham Grange, he hates it and he instantly knows something is wronge, signing your name in blood, and then he finds out his teacher goes somewhere every full moon. It has a very wacky and wierd twist to it, a little bit sick, but funny.
This book has exelent use of words and when he feels pain or something, you literaly feel it with him, it is so realistic. This was the best book i had read in a long time, i couldnt stop reading it. The characters are funny, and wierd.
However, this book just takes too long to read, for some wierd reason and after a while you start to get bored of it. Also when you have read it once it tends to lie forgoten, you wont want to read it again.
Dont get me wronge, it is a very good book, but it simply takes too long to read.
