I'm a fitness instructor who has been finding a constant work schedule harder and harder to keep up with - until a friend introduced me to the Thrive Diet. I'm not vegan and I don't follow the whole diet, but Brendan's early chapters made it crystal clear to me why I was napping in the afternoons and feeling absolutely wrecked after my classes. I follow his recipes and theories about fuelling for athletic performance and literally one week into using his pre-exercise drinks, homemade electrolyte drinks for during exercise and recovery drinks for afterwards, I am a changed person. I'm awake for the whole day, alert, calmer, giving a lot more to my classes and am generally just more rational and relaxed after months of feeling about 90.

The book is worth the price just to read his well-thought out philosophies about diet, whether you're an athlete or not. But whatever your lifestyle, if you're finding yourself tired, drained, gaining or unable to lose weight, inexplicably cranky and for any reason suspect you might be heading into adrenal burn-out, you will find explanations, answers and best still, solutions, in the Thrive Diet - without necessarily turning vegan or radically changing your life.

A little warning - the first shopping trip to buy the base ingredients WILL dent your bank account as you need quality products, probably from a health food store, but most of these more obscure items will last you a long time as they're used in small quantities.

Hurrah for the thrive diet!

One of the most informative books on life, diet and the environment that you'll ever read. If you have the will power and the desire to follow it then it will change your life for the better. You'll need to shop online for a number of the US centric ingredients though.

Although the book did not answer my "high" expectations, it seems very useful/helpful not only for beginners but also for athletes/fitness instructors etc.

There are some good exercises illustrated by Brazier, with clear explanations. I loved the one called "Foot Towel Roll Shin Strengthener". If you think you need to add some fitness in your running routine, these ones will definitely help you to draw your own way.

Brief information about bones and muscles is also very helpful. "Eight Key Nutrients" Part at the end might make you see clearer what is going on in your body while running. (For example; I did not know I was breaking down my cell tissues while running... interesting information) Recipes also seem quite good; yet you need to show a greater afford to prepare them. I'm not very sure if I try any of those....

You will also love the stress part; which has been the main "concern" for me. Read this part carefully!

I bought this book because I was looking for vegan sports drink/gel recipes. It fulfills its promise in that respect, and it also provides some interesting information on the properties of different foods. As it's written in an easy-to-read fashion, it doesn't take long to go through it and highlight the most interesting parts.
I recommend it for those starting out in the vegan sports world and those who are further along in their discovery of the benefits of a plant-based diet.

I purchased this book after finding subscribing to the Thrive newsletters. I originally wanted advice on what to do to speed up recovery from an injury, but I find myself referring to this book over and over as it has so much useful information and it is very well structured. As a vegan and a runner I'm always looking for tips on how to eat during the day so that it doesn't affect my afternoon training negatively, and this book has a lot of advice on how to fuel you body so that you feel great not only for your workouts, but 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. It also has a lot of good advice on how to train (for all levels) and how to avoid injury and prevent stress. I also like that Brendan is so adamant that he is not a natural born athlete - that he had to work hard on his training and diet to achieve his goals, but that with the right training programme and the right fuel, your body can do amazing things. If you are primarily looking for recipes, there are a couple in this book, but you'd get more value for money buying one of Brendan Brazier's other books. I'd recommend this to anyone who is interested in fitness and a healthy lifestyle, though it is probably best for those looking to change their lifestyle in a more healthy direction.

Interesting reading at the start although covers much about Health issues covered in many other books. Some interesting training information and tips. Disappointing when you get to the recipes as it seems to be a massive self-promotion for authors products
