5.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good book
This book stayed clear of most of my pet hates in books:

The book sticks to its subject matter. Ie there's no wasting time showing how to declare a variable or here's how to connect to a database. It assumes you have basic .Net experience.

It's not too thick - I'm dumbfounded by some of these books that are 1000's of pages long. In addition each lab...

3.0 out of 5 stars For a book on WPF just not nearly enough
It's an "okay" short sparsely detailed quick introduction to WPF.
It lacks depth everywhere. Other books are definitely thicker AND contain a LOT more relevant information. It certainly doesn't reek with wisdom. The only relevance for the test lies in the test questions on the CD (and those are more like an introduction to the real test questions).
What I don't...

This book is nicely worded, you don't have to read the text 3 or 4 times trying to figure out what the author is saying.

There's an accompanying set of practice tests that anyone doing the exam should purchase and do anyway.

Good book - was very impressed.

What I don't like about the book:
- there where quite a few examples mimicking how to position controls like in the window forms world (not explicitly trying to make a point of it).
- The pages could have been used to convey more information and less redundant walkthroughs. More concise visual code in the print would've been better instead of asking the user to open files during a walkthrough repeating an identical presentation).
- A lot of basics for every day professional work are missing

If it were'nt for the test questions I wouldn't recommend the book at all. There are much better alternatives out there e.g.
Pro WPF in C# 2008: Windows Presentation Foundation with .NET 3.5, 2nd Edition

5.0 out of 5 stars good introduction to WPF, 3 Aug. 2010
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: MCTS Self-Paced Training Kit (Exam 70-502): Microsoft® .NET Framework 3.5 - Windows® Presentation Foundation (PRO-Certification) (Hardcover)
I found this to be a very good introduction to WPF.
I passed the exam with no real WPF experience, just 1 year Silverlight experience and this book.

Nicely written. It will give you a good overall understanding of the WPF... but be warned : you won't pass the exam just by reading this book!
