4.0 out of 5 stars Think the reviews are a little harsh
This book is fine if you're looking to run through the various bits of MS Project needed to take the Exam 70-632: TS: Microsoft Office Project 2007, Managing Projects. It recommends the PMBOK which I didn't bother with (I've done PRINCE2 and hoped this would cover it!). There are a few noticeable gaps but it is never going to be a brain dump for the exam (nor should...

1.0 out of 5 stars Dont frustrate yourself with this book ....
This was the first book I purchased when studying for the 70-632 exam. What a dissapointment it turned out to be. It became obvious from the start that the book was poorly written, not very easy to follow and did not go into enough detail for many of the topics. Indeed on many occasions it refered you to the Microsoft website for articles written by Microsoft. I had...

I had already purchased the Ultimate Learning Guide from MSPROJECTEXPERTS, and what a difference there was. Although not specifically written with exam certification in mind, the Ultimate Learning Guide is a far superior book.
If you are thinking of buying this book, do yourself a favour, forget it . There are many other books to choose from. I dont think I have ever been as frustrated or as dissapointed as I was while trying to study from this book.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good, but flawed, 19 Jun. 2014

This is a fairly hefty book - over 500 pages - and is ideal if you are using Microsoft Project 2007.

However, exam 70-632 no longer exists - so why get this book?

If you are studying for exam 74-343 for Microsoft Project 2013, there are still reasons to get this book.

Firstly, there are no official study guides for 2013; this 2007 is the latest one there is.

Secondly, by not being able to show you where on the ribbon commands are (because the ribbon did not exist in 2007), it forces you to find them for yourself - and as being able to say where commands are is such an important part of this exam, this is an excellent way to learn.

Given that you can buy it new from third-party sellers or second-hand for just a few pounds, the book should be worth considering. There is, however, quite an errata list, which can be frustrating, such as the question which asked you to pick 2 answers, but the correct answer used 3 answers, not 2. Because of these mistakes, and the fact it is out-of-date, only 3 stars.

This book is fine if you're looking to run through the various bits of MS Project needed to take the Exam 70-632: TS: Microsoft Office Project 2007, Managing Projects. It recommends the PMBOK which I didn't bother with (I've done PRINCE2 and hoped this would cover it!). There are a few noticeable gaps but it is never going to be a brain dump for the exam (nor should these guides be that). There are a few sections where it states the bleeding obvious (I hate being told how to copy and paste for example) but then the target audience is PMs who might not be as techie as programmers.

As these guides go this is one of the better ones I've seen - if a little dry. If you're planning to buy it to learn how to use Project from scratch it probably isn't the right book though it did take me through some areas I'd not seen before and I feel like a more rounded MS-Project user now (I might not have memorised the menu option like the sample questions expected but at least I know it's there somewhere.... and MS Projects menus are a complete mess!).
