I've read this book 3 or 4 times. Built a spreadsheet that illustrates the principles. And if I had the time, I'd buy a soldering iron and get building some of the examples in the book. Totally awesome. I honestly never knew how simple computers actually were - when you get down to basics that is. Buy it!

A complete and detailed explanation of how computers work, starting from the concept of number to modern (1998-2000) computers. It roughly covers the first Electronic course you may take at university (binary numbers, relays, logic gates, IC, bus, ..), and it's probably better explained. Remarkable book.

One of the finest books to read if you want to know how computers do their thing. It starts from scratch - literally from morse code going up to binary and beyond. You will understand how these black boxes work so much better after finishing this book. Couldn't recommend it more.

A very good book, the writer gradually progresses you through the information steadily in a way which allows it to be easily understood. I definitely recommend this.
The only problem I have is it's quite an old book, if it was more recent it would definitely be a five star.

This is a very interesting and well written book (Kindle form) if one is interested in grasping a bit about the development of computing from the very beginning.

So far a great read to pick up whenever I have a spare 20 minutes.

A great book. Starts with morse code and braile and works its way all the way up to the modern OS's, mainly through a thorough explanation of how logic gates and transistors work individually to suddenly forming a viable computer.

This is a great informative read. You don't need to know any CS theory to understand the concepts laid out due to great writing and explanation. Anyone could gain something from this book.
