Having livedin Perth, Western Australia from 1970-1884, I spent alot of my free tme at the WACA watching test and state cricket matches made my interest in cricket grow. From the Chappel brothers to Denis Lillie to Rod Marsh Australian cricket has always been in safe hands apart from the selectors. Then came the Packer yrs when my heros were playing to small crowds at awful grounds. But now over 25 yrs later would players like Ricky Ponting have developed as much if it wasnt for the Packer rebels? Ricky has a hard act to follow, he was always on a hiding to nothing because of the success of his predecessors. But over the years Ricky has taken the task of captain in his stride and he will be remembered with the rest as a great captain who was laways pride to wear the green cap.
