Trebetherwick, et al.
on 15 December 2009
This is a lovely book to both read, enjoy and which has lovely illustrations. The frontpiece is taken from the churchyard at St Enedoc's Parish Church, Trebetherwick, where Sir John Betjeman is buried. Being laid here is the perfect setting for Sir John, who spent many happy hours here, and in his nearby holiday cottage and on the beach with his family each summer. Sir John is an 'idealist realist'. He is a keen observer of human frailties and aspirations and does not shy away from the external realities all around us. It is a good stocking filler for Christmas, and at any time of the year for the lover of poetry and prose.
