this is a fascinating book whether you plan to cook with it or just have an interest. the original recipes presented alongside the modern adaptations give an insight into medieval cooking techniques and ideas. the comments by sass are concise and useful. the only criticism would be that the measures are all american, i.e. cups, and please note the servings are as part of a feast, where it says serves 8, it will probably only serve 4 as part of a normal meal.

many of the recipes are very useful for those with gluten or dairy intolerances as this older school of cooking has different ideas on constructing a dish.
