If you are in any doubt... buy this book and try it! I bought it for my 7 year old son who has special needs. He is clever but has trouble recalling things due to a processing issue so he was really struggling with his tables. I started this book with him today and he already knows 1/4 of the rhymes! FANTASTIC! I think he thinks in pictures and therefore says that when I ask him a times table now he can see the picture and therefore remember the answer! I really can't believe the difference in ONE DAY!
I am a maths teacher myself and not at all suggesting this is only for children with special needs (just telling you our story!)... children all think and learn in different ways and if you have a child who is struggling to learn their tables in the "old fashioned" rote way... then give this a try!

I have never written a review on Amazon before - but I felt compelled to as this book has really worked.

My daughter is in year 3 and I have been struggling with helping her learn her times tables for a while now. She has what I would call and 'English' head. She loves reading and writing, making up stories and creative role play. She is OK at maths but she doesn't enjoy it because she is not confident in her ability. Teaching her times tables has been a nightmare - we've tried learning them by rote, chanting, printing out labels, computer programmes, songs, apps with no success. This book however is illustrated and aimed at her, the tables are turned into rhymes which she can learn quite easily because it appeals to the 'English' side of her. We got the book yesterday - being called 'magic' helped! We just started on her 3 times tables last night just in short bursts and she took the book with her to bed last night to look at the pictures and this morning she can remember her threes! I don't think even she can believe it! She has taken the book with her to school today to show her teacher - it's the first time I have seen her excited about maths!

So thank you - we will progress with 4s tonight but it's not a chore, she actually thinks the book is magic which is why she can finally remember these tables! She really enjoyed saying the rhymes in a sing song voice and I think this book will give her the little bit of confidence she was lacking because she realised last night that she can do it.

Don't hesitate to get this book - it's brilliant, especially if you have a child that loves English :0)

Good book for 'English' brain children, but there is a flaw. My daughter is esceptionally good at English, so the learning of Times Tables in Rhyming Poems works for her. I say 3 x 4? And she says 'Elves = 12'. Great, but. It is not getting her to see the patterns in maths. She is merely learning poems by rote. She cannot 'see' that 2 x 6 is half of 4 x 6 or 3 x 3 and 4 x 4 are both cubed numbers for example. So, I would say great for starters, but then she really has to learn the patterns between the numbers.

Amazing book. I was a bit dubious when I bought it but within 2 days my 5 year old was answering questions on the 3x table and I hadn't really been doing it with her. Would recommend it to anyone with a child who is more visual or language oriented.

I heard about this book from a teacher. I bought it for my niece. She is great at art and English so this really appealed to her. She learnt all her tables very quickly with it. Now she has a new found confidence in Maths. Fab idea.

An easy to use, alternative system to help with learning times tables. Would recommend for those struggling to master their tables.

Harry's Magic Tables is THE only thing that has worked in helping my daughter learn her times tables! Thank you Stephanie Monaghan (and Harry)! After literally trying every other resource out there, we've finally found something that works :)

This book is amazing. We've tried learning tables every which way but this works. In less than one week my son (age 8) has learned all the rhymes and tables but most surprisingly he's enjoyed every minute of it! Can't recommend this book enough!

Bought this to help my daughter who is 8. I admit to being very slightly sceptical about how well this book would work, especially when it mentioned flying rhymes and such things! In truth it was great fun to read and my daughter got it straight away, within minutes she was telling us the answers to time tables that before she had to work out.
Originally we were reading it because we ought to really, but within a few times of going through it we found it a really fun book to read.
This book should be in schools, it`s a fun, easy way to learn the times tables. it turned something quite mundane into something quite engrossing.

Beginning to despair that history might be repeating itself with problems learning tables but then I came across this little gem. Three cheers for the author
