Sometimes the simplest ideas make the best things and this book may be no exception to the rule. Put simply, this book is a treasure trove of ideas about how to decorate biscuits (or cookies as they are known in the United States).

The book includes all the advice you may need to get up and going, although many more-experienced cooks might skip the guide to baking biscuits and go straight to the designs. After a brief overview about decorating equipment and icing, it is time to roll up your sleeves and get creative.

The designs are split into collections and here the author's creativity begins to shine. Designs such as Australiana, a vintage tea party, a visit from the stork or Dad's toolkit manage to provide fresh, inspiring and yet rather simple transformations to the humble biscuit that will brighten up every possible occasion. And what is more, even if you tire of the various designs you will be inspired to make your own variation on a theme too.

Throughout the book various hints and tips appear to further help you fine tune your art, so skip through pages at your peril. You could while away a long time just looking at the wonderful photographs too. Just don't look at this book if you are on a diet. Or, come to think of it, with your child by your side or they will soon make a VERY long list of biscuits that they would like... and children seem to never forget!

There's nothing more to say. A great book at a competitive price which fills a niche with aplomb. When is the next volume coming out?

Absolutely incredible - so clear, so well written. A perfect beginners guide to how to make and decorate your own biscuits. Much better than The Biscuiteers book and the recipes are utterly delicious. A must have for every keen baker :D

Whether it's Easter, Australia day, a christening or a wedding... this book has biscuits for every occasion. My favourite themes are 'Commotion in the Ocean' - jewel-coloured seahorses, starfish, dolphins and fish (including Nemo!) - and 'A Woodland Walk' - really cute foxes, squirrels, hedgehogs, etc. Ooh, and the dinosaurs!

The decorating skills are very high quality but clearly and simply laid out with diagrams and full-colour photographs, so it's easy to follow and build up your repertoire. All recipes are included for biscuits and icing, and I can confirm they taste as good as they look.

A fair amount of different shaped cookie cutters are required, it's true, but Giles has lots of handy tips for making your own templates or adapting existing shapes - for example, if you don't have a wombat-shaped cutter (!) she explains how you can use a pig cutter and simply round the ears and snout.

The book is both inspirational and instructional, and will really make you want to get baking and decorating.

sorry, just average. This is a kind of one off book someone had fun writing. It's amateurish but very enthusiastic so it's not a bad book if you have a nascent interest in decorating cookies for the family and need to learn everything from scratch.

this book has soo many excellent reviews. its brilliant for those just starting out but also for people already good at it. its very encouraging, practical and well writen with plenty of diagrams and how to make the right consistancy of icing ,when to freeze biscuits and what to do when they go soft after the icing has dried. i dont sugest this book if your looking for new or lots of recipies as it only has basic ones as a guide and not very many.

Incredibly perfect and beautiful biscuits design, detailed instructions that make you feel in control of every steps, even if you are new to baking/icing.
Tried a couple of recipes. The chocolate biscuits are just fantastic, however, I found the basic wholemeal ones a bit too sweet, even without adding icing. I'll probably try to adjust it to my taste next time.

Prompt delivery. Saw some of the actual biscuits made by the author of this book which looked fab! Googled her name and found this book - hence made the purchase to try some out with my 11 year old. Good illustrations and looks well written (although not tried it out yet!).
