4.0 out of 5 stars Brief summary of my opinions..., 29 May 2006
By
This review is from: An Introduction to Greek Art (Paperback)
Often used as a text book for those studying Classical Civilisation at AS-level, this book is a comprehensive guide to typical Greek art. Although the amount of text appears daunting, and can sometimes be hard to decipher due to the quantity and situation (the text is not always directly next to what it describes), the book is paced and explanatory. It involves both the beginner and advanced learners equally, with a useful index to both articles and illustrations. The inclusion of Museums where the artifacts are housed add interest and may even prompt you to visit them - they can be quite different, particularly some of the larger vases and the pictures can make them appear smaller!Pots are displayed chronologically and sections on temples and statues are interspersed to add variety. A very useful book for anyone interested in Greek art and architecture!

5.0 out of 5 stars A solid grouding, 17 Mar. 2013
This review is from: An Introduction to Greek Art (Paperback)
This is a terrific book, written in a lively and enguaging style with half a ton of information which not only prvides specifics but also gives a general overview of the three main greek art forms still extant (almost all the traces of painting long since dissappeared), vase painting, sculpture and temple architecture. Not remotely stuffy and full of (admittedly black and white) photographs, this is a must!

5.0 out of 5 stars great book, 10 Jan. 2014
This review is from: An Introduction to Greek Art (Paperback)
i used this book for studying, not only is there information about the sculptures and vases, but there are the stories behind the things. the only down fall is the that most of photos are in black and white, although this is not a problem you just don't get the whole experience.

Fantastic piece of text, especially for A2 students studying Greek art and architecture, as the whole course is in the book.
Well illustrated and written, Susan Woodford knows exactly what she's talking about.
