Once again Trudy friend has produced a quality book. Her skill is a pleasure to view and this book (as all her titles) are filled with helpful advice and information. This is a wonderful book for a beginner, as the illustrations could be copied to gain confidence. It is also good for those with more experience, as it refreshes knowledge and plainly just inspires.

It would be nice if there was a bit more information on ,quick sketching, as I think many of the detailed drawings of people and animals could only be derived from photographic reference, however, this doesn't detract from the fact that this is a wonderful book and will be a great addition to anyone wanting to learn the foundation skills of drawing.

Do not hesitate to buy this book.
I received it a few days ago, when it first came out, and just pouring through Trudy's illustrations was a sheer pleasure.
Just take a look at the drawing of the 'Trunk with Ivy'on page 28 and you will be blown away.
I needed a kick start to get me back into drawing again and this book has certainly fired me up. I have been practicing the techniques, at the start of the book, everyday since.
Trudy explains and shows you the necessary application methods you need to execute, to achieve the different effects.
There are six diffent catagories of subjects that Trudy covers, so there is something for everybody.
My advise is to copy out the techniques and then just PRACTICE, PRACTISE, PRACTICE.
All you need is a pencil and paper, and this book of course, and then off you go.
I have difficulty with depicting mass foliage. Trudy shows you exactly how to achieve it this in the book, and it is that that I have been practicing so far.
There is a wealth of knowledge in this book and it is ideal for both BEGINNERS and EXPERIANCED artists alike.
SO glad that I have bought this book. Please do the same, you will not be dissappionted.

We ordered this book after borrowing the original from our local library. Their copy had many pages in colour. The copy we got from Amazon E.U. Sarl is completely black and white. E.g. in the original, Pages 22-23, 68-69 and 123 contain instructions on colour shading, and make no sense in black and white.
Presumably this is some kind of a cheap black-and-white print run. Why should we pay top price for this item?

Lots of examples to copy and techniques to try. I liked the practical description of techniques but there weren't many complete projects to work through even though they were claimed to exist.

A helpful book which will be useful in the future. My only criticism is the sharpness of the edges of the front and back covers. To avoid cutting my fingers I have edged them with sellotape.
