I was looking for a book on beading that gave good information for the beginner and some nice designs to get me started - and this is it. The pictures are good and the instructions for the projects are clear. There are loads of different designs to suit different tastes and each has an approximate time to complete, a guide to ease of making and a complete list of items required along with the picture and instructions. I am so pleased I bought this book.

This book is an excellent resource for those wishing to design and make handcrafted jewellery. I have referred to the techniques and instructions time and again, and believe it to be one of the best reference books on the market. Filled with great illustrations, easy to follow step-by-step instructions, design ideas and crafty tips, this is a must have for everyone interested in making their own jewellery.

Completely new to making beaded jewellery, I found this book really helpful. There were basic, straight-forward instructions for a large variety of different projects.

The emphasis was on different types of beads rather than lots of different techniques, but it has been a great help getting me started.

I bought this book for my 12 year old daughter who is a keen but self-taught jewellery maker, based on the other recommendations. This book is very attractive and informative on a wide range of techniques with advice on the kit required. However, I found that most of the designs were quite old fashioned or very intricate, requiring a potentially prohibitively expensive amount of beads for a younger maker. While she has enjoyed looking through the book and has picked up some useful tips on technique, she doesn't like any of the designs enough to replicate them. The one technique we were looking for advice on was glossed over and so was of little help. In retrospect, I would recommend this book to a more mature beginner, with the time and patience to spend on more traditional designs; it's hasn't hit the buttons of the younger audience.

Having just got into beading in a BIG way, and busily buying and borrowing beady books, I've been really inspired by this one (and have bought her others) This was my first though, so it holds pride of place.

The instructions are really clear (always helpful if you are trying to teach yourself anything, rather than being taught in a class), but what I most appreciate is Barbara Case's artistry. Her designs are very inspiring and I've had lots of my own ideas come into place from the beautiful pictures and instructions here. Again, what is great is that she encourages you to be inventive in your own right, and to view her designs as possible templates/springboards for your own ideas. As a teacher myself (but not of beading!) I'm always encouraged by teachers who seek to develop the creativity of their students, rather than insist on slavish following or imply that only experienced teachers/professionals have the skills to invent.

I bet if Barbara Case runs workshops, that her students very quickly fire up with confidence and enthusiasm, if the style of her teaching is anything like the personality which comes across in this book

This book is really nicely illustrated and the instructions clear, but the author tends to favour more traditional designs using french wire (gimp) and gold.

It does have some great explanations of the basic beading techniques though, so useful for any beader to have for reference.

I bought this book just over a week ago and set about making one of the projects straight away. The book is lovely to look at (I spent hours just pondering the possibilities!) and is very clear and detailed. I made one of the necklaces tonight (couldn't wait for all the supplies to arrive!!) and although I couldn't get the exact beads in the make up of this necklace, my necklace looks just as good and I couldn't be more pleased.
Definitely a good first buy if you want to start out in making beaded jewellery. I've now got the bug and the possibilities, using this book alone, are endless!

Having recently decided to get into jewellery making, I hunted around for a book that would provide information and guidance on the basics together with nice items to make and clear instructions.

I plumped for this book as it came highly recommended by Amazon reviewers.

The book certainly is a great resource for beginners and is clear, colourful, and meaningful to those who are just starting out.

There are many projects in the book with clear instructions. However, I found that although there were only a few really nice projects that appealed to my taste; the majority didn't float my boat! However, the book has given me the foundation to create my own designs.

This is a great book for ideas when starting out making Jewellery - some are more difficult than others, but a great starting point, and lots of ideas that can easily be adapted to suit.
