5.0 out of 5 stars Well-Rounded and thorough resource.
This is an excellent book for anyone considering breaking into Low-Light Photography. It comes stacked with a range of chapters dealing specific subject types and a wealth of indispensable information. It arms any photographer to attempt the most adventurous shots. 1.0 out of 5 stars No more up-to-date
This book was once probably a superb guide. The problem is that it was not updated with the arrival of digital photography. Many pages dwell at great length on all kind of films and their characteristics and suitability for night photography, which is of no use (or even more a nuisance) for the vast majority that has a digital camera. The typography adds to the impression...

This is an excellent book for anyone considering breaking into Low-Light Photography. It comes stacked with a range of chapters dealing specific subject types and a wealth of indispensable information. It arms any photographer to attempt the most adventurous shots. The frank and matter of fact writing style is also very refreshing in a world of maybes, which is always backed with actual guides, which I find myself copying into my little photo note book which I carry with me everywhere. I thoroughly recommend this book, possibly the best book I've purchased to date on Photography.

Although my personal photographic library is not particularly extensive I have collected quite a large range of the more popular technical manuals. This book tops the list for me. Inspiring to any level of photographer or cinematographer, it would be worth the price of admission for the photos alone, let alone for the wonderful flowing writing style that Lee Frost so casually but eloquently employs.
Essential reading for anyone with more than a passing interest in photography of any desciption.

Of all the books I have purchased this one has had the most effect on my results, which were effectively instantaneous, and is the one book I wouldn't part with. With the basic equipment and this book you will be amazed how stunning your photographs can be. Low light photography is now my favourite subject. Well worth the money.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good book, I recommend it!, 4 Jun 2002
This review is from: Night and Low-light Photography: The Complete Guide (Paperback)
As the previous reviewer mentioned: The photographs are a bit diverse in this book. There are a lot of wow! pictures, some average, and a few what could be better...
The author repeats itselfs several times - too often to me- but it can be a positive if you read the book in a 'jumping from one chapter to another' style, becouse you won't miss some important thing.
After all, my pictures improved greatly after read this book, and I am somehow more 'self-assured' when photographing in lo-ligth.
I highly recommend this book!

Wanting to do some low-light photography but not nowing where to begin? This is the book! It is filled with beatifull pictures that shows exactly what kind of exiting possibilities one have when dealing with low-light photography. How to use sparklers, torches, flash and candles to frame light and shaddow...
After reading the book I immediately took my Nikon F3 into a dark night with fog and produced some 4 brilliant pictures in an impossible environment. The book told me how to do it!
I would recommend this book to any photographer, be he amateur or pro.

a very well written book, very well organized, plenty of useful tips, beautiful examples, excellent layout and quality of production, divided into the usual sections starting with the basics which he assumes you have a good knowledge of so he quickly jumps to the gear and dosent hang alot there as this book is not for the absolute novice,so he passes to the real thing; to explain what to do in different situations like photographing cities at night, fireworks etc... he starts with general instructions related to each siuation, what gear you should have etc...i found the instructions here very useful and thus itake the book with me whenever i travel around.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lee Frost Low Light Photography, 2 July 2002

I spent 3 nights reviewing this awesome book of information and know-how, did what it said and came back with nearly half a roll of slide film that looked like someone else with knowledge had taken the pictures. I had never used slide film before but will not stop using it now. Just a 35mm camera with bulb setting, good tripod and cable release is what you need along with this book! You cannot go wrong!
Excellent Book, worth owning and reading again and again...

3.0 out of 5 stars Buyer Beware!, 10 Jan 2007

Very good book with some interesting ideas for photographic projects, but it is VERY film based, so if you (like me) have made the move to digital you have to adapt the ideas he outlines. He does mention digital, but as the book was written in 2001, he doesn't pay it much heed.

Nice concepts, given me ideas, but due to it's preponderance and bias towards the film medium, it isn't great (in my honest opinion)

5.0 out of 5 stars An essential read for anyone wanting to take low light photo, 13 Feb 2004
This review is from: Night and Low-light Photography: The Complete Guide (Paperback)
This is an essential book to own, i've learned more from this book than probably any other! The photos are great and the explainations easy to follow. It's opened my eyes up so much that i now feel compelled to go and buy a flash and tripod and get out more in the evening and early morning!! The book is well organised, and my only complaint if any is that the author sometimes repeats himself. Otherwise excellent!
