3.0 out of 5 stars The same again
This is very similar to Pastoral Services of 1996, apart from having the Common Worship words, and repeats much material from other books. Good to have if you don't already have guides for pastoral occasions

The existing "Pastoral Services" green book had several drawbacks, chief among them that it is no good for emergency pastoral situations. If, for instance, you were ministering to someone who was dying, you'd have to take both this volume and Initiation Services because only the latter has confession and absolution (and you have to hunt for the absolution which, maddeningly and inexplicably, is printed elsewhere). Additionally, these two volumes are hardly compact.

This new volume is compact, light, and bound in green leather. It has everything gathered conveniently together. There are ribbons and an index. It also has emergency baptism and home/hospital communion material; the one irritating thing is that you're told if you are a priest and need to consecrate bread and wine you should use a suitable eucharistic prayer. It's not the stating of the obvious that is irritating, but that they don't provide this prayer, and it could so easily have been printed in there.

I recommend, for sacramental confession, that you use the form of absolution that states, "I absolve you from all your sins..." It's the contemporary-language version of the Book of Common Prayer's form and leaves the penitent in no doubt that he or she has been absolved - an assurance that is notably lacking in the alternative provision.

I'd definitely recommend this book for those who want a manual of authorized material for pastoral emergencies.
