This book is an eye opener for everyone. It is a wake up call to the effects of our wasteful and tasteless society. It is humbling to read about Mumbai and how proud it is of having a clean and safe public toilet. Everyday things we take or demand as necessary are to those that do not, a luxury. More than ever before we are creating cities of slums and this book puts the statistics in such a way, that everyone will understand. This book is well worth the money and time to read and look at the wonderful pictures. It brings to life cities that we hear about but perhaps know very little about. For those of you doing any social science course, this book is a must read, as is the first - the endless city.

4.0 out of 5 stars contemporary, 24 Nov 2011

A interesting overview about megacities in the 21st century. The economical basis expressed in schematic graphic samples adds a more intriguing analysis of the urban design integrating the urbanistic traditional exposure.

I purchased this book as an auxiliary tool for my dissertation on human geography. Although my exact subject is on quarters within the city and segregation, this amazing book proved to offer some compelling information, stats and up-to-date facts on today's social geography, how we consume and where. Undoubtedly, Deyan Sudjic is a well-known 'guru' in the field, nevertheless the work they edited is absolutely vital to anyone who wishes to have top notch data on today's world's figures. For those who would just like to indulge in a bit of charts, figures and pie charts, 100% recommended: it offers some great thoughts to process later on and it is a vital addition to anybody's general knowledge and culture.
Brilliant!
