5.0 out of 5 stars Sex/Vionence/Racial Issues/Provocation in Design! BUY NOW, 2 Nov 2000

This review is from: Graphic Agitation: Social and Political Graphics since the Sixties (Paperback)
Filled with pictures and information this book is excellent. Not only does it look good but once you pick it up it feels very nice.
Armed with the information this book provides you about the use of socio political views in design and art you will be the heart of the designers ball. The pictures are of very high quality indeed and the information it provides for each is thorough and to the point. It is well worth the price and is cheaper than you'll find anywhere else. Believe me! I looked.
Inside designs range from full on advertising campaigns to one off posters. It is well explained and expresses views of the people who actually designed the pieces of design/art and not personal opinion by the book writer.
This book shows you how design can be provoking and disgusting to people. It agitates and annoys its viewers and there is so much to keep you wanting to go even further into each page and find out for yourself what is behind the artwork.
You will learn so much more about agitation in graphics after reading through this book and you will refer to it time and time gain whenever use of sex/violence/racial issues crop up on your travels and more.
If you want to learn more about the use of social political views in design then this is the only book you'll ever need.

Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Graphic Agitation: Social and Political Graphics since the Sixties (Paperback)
.
Fantastic quality prints of posters and advertisements which have raised awareness and questioned the establishments and politics of countries around the world.
Covers all mediums from graphiti to magazine advertisements, raising questions, poking fun, giving the other viewpoint and generally causing a nuisance, this book even manages to get in touch with the producers of a lot of the works and discuss how the images came about, viewpoints etc.
Bear in mind that a lot of the pictures in this book are meant to disgust and antagonise and the subject matter covers everything from racial abuse, government politics, sexual abuse, arms trade, 3rd world economies and everything in between.
Sometimes hilarious, often moving, always well presented, this is an important catalgue of outrage and alternate views which we may one lose sight of.
At this price you have no excuse not to buy...!
