This book has for a long time been my favourite cook book. Many of the ingredients will seem unusual to people in the UK., but I have yet to make a dish that isn't absolutely delicious. Expect to use lots (yes, lots) of sour cream, caraway seeds, celery leaves, and meat with the fat on it - to mention just a few.

My mother was the world's worst cook! Meat cremated, vegetables cooked to death, and rice pudding like concrete. So bad was it that I really looked forward to school dinners; and in those days, in London, school food was wholesome and nutritious. BUT, this book was a revelation. The book was 95p when I bought my copy, its falling apart and tatty with use, but my expanding girth will vouch for the fact that the recipes are worth following. Its a pity the book hasn't been republished
