Very compact, well illustrated, contains a lot of information on 'memory intensive' data,eg. signals, ship recognition by lights. Should provide a handy reference in respect of this.
Some other subjects covered provide basic learning material for non competant crew and may provide valuable revision for a experienced skipper.

What can I say? Well I can say that almost everything you will need for basic navigation is contained in this little book.
This is the type of book that you will have on board and will probably be flicking thru eventhough you know everything that is in it. Somehow it condenses all the essentials you need to know and exactly those that you need to revise for your boating/yachting journeys.

Excellent guide. You would not believe the amount of information that is presented concisely and clearly in so few pages. Great for reference, and excellent for budding day skippers and comp crew to browse through whilst lounging in the saloon.

I was expecting a flip chart with key things that every skipper needs to know, such as buoyage, sight and sound signals, mayday procedure etc; while it does have that info it has gone far beyond the basics and is packed with text in tiny print, the front page shown on Amazon is not representative of style of the remaining pages at all; on a small vessel rocking on the sea with salt spray on your glasses during the sort of situation when a quick guide is needed there is virtually no chance of being able to use this on or below deck. In my opinion it is ideal as reference for study (revision) purposes but totally unsuitable as a cockpit guide.

This "guide" is a very good idea.
But I agree with M.North: too much detail in too small prints.
I would also add that it is not really splash proof as advertised.
Pages need to be properly plastified before taking the guide aboard.

Just the thing for keeping on the chart table ... comprehensive but easy to find details of those things you sometimes wonder about, eg rights of way/colregs or maybe lights ... well priced and nicely presented ... 100% A1.

The skipper books were a Christmas Gift for a friend and arrived earlier than expected and in good order. I already had the books and therefore knew how useful they are for anyone starting and after completing your Day Skipper qualification. A great aid. Happy sailing.

Does what the cover says...gives easy reference to facts you need to know about navigation and basic steering techniques. Bit on VHF radios would be a usefull addtion to future editions.
