Impro does the necessary in introducing the actor, or artist into the ways of thinking which allow for improvisation.

Was recommended to me by a friend who re-reads it every year. The first part of the book was the most interesting for me. The author's thoughts on education were fascinating and the use of 'status' as a way of understanding dramatic situation was very strong indeed. That part reminded me of transactional analysis (see 'Games People Play' by Eric Berne) and was useful in thinking about literature in general. Highly recommended.

I found out about this book via Ideas Tap and I'm so glad I did. What a fascinating read. It's really opened my mind. I think this book is vaulable to any performer - it's not only about improvisation but about being a truthful and imaginative performer. I'll read it again and again.

The book I ordered arrived within 2 days and is in excellent condition. Along with the book came a friendly hand written 'thank you' note with a big smile on it, which gave the order a nice personal touch.

Thanks Tania! I'll be sure to browse your shop in the future :)

Extraordinary book by an extraordinary man. Keith Johnstone has gone about systematically turning every scrap of received wisdom on its head to compile this effective and startlingly original handbook for recovering spontaneity. I keep recommending this book to people.

It never fails to amaze me how observant proponents of impro and acting in general are

This book is a wonderful study of Status and other aspects of human nature in addition to impro disciplines - an excellent read - highly recommended.

Johnstone's book laid the foundation for our ideas about improvisation and theatre. Anybody active in the theatre (pro or amateur) should read this, but it is a fascinating read for everyone interested in imagination. An absolute must-read!

I thought this would be more of text book style, it is much more biographical than that. Interesting, yet I would have liked a more easy to use dip in and out of book. I expect Ill get there when I have given it a bit more time

This is a cracking read. I have nothing to do with the acting profession, and very little interest in it. But if you want an hilarious read and you want to improve your funniness, this is the book for you.
