I placed this order because i had already used it myself and in the recent past had bought a copies of the book for friends who had 'Grammar' difficulties. This purchase was for someone still at school and a little uncertain about the finer points of the game. As a tutor and also involved in ESOL/EFL I see it as essential if a serious learner needs to 'move on'. Excellent value, Good delivery service by Amazon.

A clear, practical book to remind you about all the things you learnt about grammar but have forgotten, or, if you didn't know them in the first place, to provide clear guidance on use of language.
Sadly, little serious attention has been given to grammar in schools over the past decades. The upshot has been alarming and predictable. The standard of literacy not only in schools but in universities and even worse in the media has dropped to depths unimaginable. "Less than 8 items" greets shoppers in the exit queue and far, far worse in newspapers, novels etc. That this book has been published at all is something to celebrate. It will, I imagine, remain on the reference shelves, though much of it makes for entertaining as well as illuminating reading. What is still needed is something between the excellent Usborne books for primary schoolchildren and a work such as this only like to draw in those already with a strong interest in words and style. For those in the later stages of formal education and still ignorant of the difference between a noun and a verb, this will prove too daunting. It does not make grammar easy, but it does explain the essentials and beyond with great clarity and enthusiasm. For that we should applaud energetically.
