5.0 out of 5 stars Very handy tidal info for the mid channel.
The Yachtsman's Tidal Atlas: Central Channel and the Solent (Yachsmans Tidal Atlas)

This book is a very useful tidal atlas. It shows the central channel from -6 Hrs HW to +6 Hrs HW as you would expect, giving direction and magnitude. The actual magnitude (based on HW height) can then be read off a very easy to use chart (none of that plotting rates on graphs...

3.0 out of 5 stars A useful tool
This is a useful tool for those of us sailing these waters but is a duplication of information available in nautical almanacs and sailing guides all of which have multiple other uses, not to mention on-line sites, and so becomes another volume to store. Aboard.

The actual magnitude (based on HW height) can then be read off a very easy to use chart (none of that plotting rates on graphs here). There is also a sub section on each page giving a local tidal map of the Isle of Wight/Solent for each time.

The book is based on high water Cherbourg. Cherbourg runs its tides in the time zone - 0100 format, which is handy since in the summer (the time most British boats will be going to France) time zone -0100 is the same as BST (British Summer Time); meaning no messing around with time changes half way over the crossing!

This book as been reprinted numerous times, I can see why - It's very good.

The only reason I gave it this score is that unlike everything else I use regarding the tide refers to Dover as the reference point this uses Cherbourg? So I am now having to get use to this which I know is probably not too much to ask but its just another thing to get to grips with. Tidal streams are very clear and easy to read
