5.0 out of 5 stars Still one of the best studies of First World War literature and culture, 22 Feb 2014
This review is from: A War Imagined: The First World War and English Culture (Paperback)
This book was first published in the early 1990s and it is in my opinion still one of the best studies of FWW literature and culture. Hynes provides important historical context as well as a broad-ranging discussion of many interesting novels, memoirs, poems, paintings, and other responses to the war. This is an excellent, readable introduction to the topic. It is useful for students and teachers at all levels as well as for the interested general reader.
