5.0 out of 5 stars The good old days!
Secured this book off Amazon after having seen it in a shop window on the way to a match. At a very reasonable 12.99( 7 cheaper than RRP) i decided to take a punt and was not disappointed. Packed with colour photographs of both English and Scottish grounds this is an essential purchase for those with a passion for football stadiums. The likes of Barrow,Bradford...

2.0 out of 5 stars Let down by some whopping errors
This book was better than I thought it was going to be but that's for two reasons: the brilliant photography of Bob Lilliman (here often reproduced in glorious 10 x 8 format) and the quality print and binding. The actual text adds very little to what you will find in the far superior Football Grounds of Britain by Simon Inglis, and the book has been padded out by the...

Avenue,Workington,Southport,Airdrieonians,Clydebank and Third Lanark are all featured here along with the more recently vacated grounds such as Highbury,Maine Road,The Den,Fellows Park,Leeds Road,Christie Park,Gay Meadow,Baseball Ground,Filbert Street,Ninian Park etc. Over 60 clubs are featured within these pages, most in colour and the majority have 2 or more images accompanied with brief history and memories text. An excellent book highly recommended!

This book was better than I thought it was going to be but that's for two reasons: the brilliant photography of Bob Lilliman (here often reproduced in glorious 10 x 8 format) and the quality print and binding. The actual text adds very little to what you will find in the far superior Football Grounds of Britain by Simon Inglis, and the book has been padded out by the inclusion of 'Memories' from a variety of sources. For such a prolific author as Michael Heatley there are two unforgiveable errors in this book that definitely require an "errata" slip being provided with each copy: on page 81, the photo purporting to be Oxford United is actually the Main Stand at St Johnstone's Muirton Park, and on page 95 there's a superb shot of Scarborough's old Grandstand - shame it's in the Scunthorpe United section.

These errors aside, I would still recommend that people purchase the book for Bob Lilliman's wonderful pictures from the seventies and eighties. Bob is the 'Don' of football ground photography and a comprehensive book of his astonishing archive would be something to treasure.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great gift book for all football fans, 17 Oct 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Lost League Football Grounds (Hardcover)
I bought this as a present for my brother who loves sport and especially football, and who I always struggle to think of ideas for. I have three brothers and a husband in their 20s/30s/40s who love football and once my brother opened this they were passing it around sharing stories of grounds they'd been to and generally being tremendously boring - although completely engrossed - for a couple of hours. This is a good sized, great quality, hardback book, of the sort that you'd be unlikely to buy for yourself as it would be a bit of a niche indulgence -therefore making it a great present idea. Highly recommended for all the football obsessives in your life.

3.0 out of 5 stars promises more than it delivers, 1 Feb 2011
This review is from: Lost League Football Grounds (Hardcover)
A missed opprotuniy by the authors - eg. lots of great photos - but no indication of dates which is pretty critical info in a book of this type.

Lots of Scottish grounds which is great for Scottish fans but less intriguing for me.

A worthwhile addition to my obsession with books about sports grounds but a long long way from the top of my favourites list!
