Mr Gazeley was an old style watch maker and repairer. This book, together with its companion volume "Watch & Clock Escapements"Clock and Watch Escapements distils a lifetimes work and experience. He deals with escapements both modern and long forgotten and shows not only how to make and repair them and other watch parts but also how to make, and use, the specialist tools required.
In a sense the books are depressing in that it would be difficult for the modern amateur or even professional to come near his skill. On the other hand, if one wishes to try, these books are for you.

Incredible book, would recommend it to anyone. It is however an insight into how complex mechanical watches/clocks are and as such isn't light reading.

I bought this book as a present for my brother who inherited a box of pocket watches and wished to restore them to working order. This book isn't really beginner-level, but I simply had too buy it as my brother and I both share the author's surname of Gazeley.

I dipped into the book and it is certainly a wealth of information with detailed notes and drawings, written by an expert. Some experience in this field is required to make the most of the book, though.

A carefully crafted book with numerous illustrations demonstrating the way to approach watchmaking and watch repairing techniques. An essential aquisition.
