5.0 out of 5 stars criticism at its best, 2 Mar 2013
RS Thomas was one of the greats of British poetry, one of its most political and one of its most personal, and his divided relationship with the English language made him one of the most trenchant, ironic and moving poets of his time. This critical books shows that he wasn't just a Welsh poet, though he was that, and deeply so, but a world poet.
Wynn Thomas's book is full of feeling, sympathy, but also critical distance and balance. There are some great photographs and pictures in the book, and perhaps the subtlest analysis of Thomas's paradoxes yet written.
This will be the essential companion to Thomas and his work, and it's hard to imagine anything better appearing anytime soon.

5.0 out of 5 stars Readable, enjoyable and functional., 5 Mar 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Wynn Thomas's book is a triumph of literary criticism. R.S Thomas was and in many ways still is an enigma, the book deals with the myths, legends and provocative actions that made his life. As the title suggests, Wynn Thomas articulates the poets compulsive need to write, and write about the same themes time and time again. Readable, enjoyable and functional, rhagorol!
