Not enough of a twist on what she has already done!
on 16 September 2012
Firstly, let me say: "if I could have given a 3& 1/2 star that is where I would have placed this book."
I think 3 star is too unfair but it's definitely not worth in my opinion a 4 star, the only reason is in the above title. I Love Nigella's "Books" don't get me wrong but I am finding them a little same old same old, same recipes slight variations such as adding lemon-cello to berries in chocolate sauce, coffee pavlova, and do we need another tirimisu or as it is in here tirimisini using the traditional marsala wine and honey and popped 80's style into martini glasses. Or adding vermouth to a savoury dish because you've run out of red wine (or you're moms pinched it for her guests because she's run out of it) leaving you to your imagination. Broccoli with lemon and parmesan sprinkled on top.
We all take the recipes from a book and tweak them thats the fun of cooking. So when I am just seeing the same recipes with these minor tweaks I find it very uninspiring and disappointing. I also understand that perfect recipe's have evolved through these minor tweaks. I am just disappointed she's not taken them any further really making them her own.
I wouldn't discourage anyone from buying it especially if they are a fan as its got some lovely recipes in it. Many as I do, will find the book a little boring.
My advice would be to pop to a local supermarket or bookstore and have a little read before you purchase. That way you will have a general Idea if it's suits you.
I have to say I won't be pre-ordering her books any more.
