5.0 out of 5 stars A surpirsingly modern tale
A fascinating account of a superpower dominating invaded locals and their spritited defence and how global politics determine local outcomes. In fact only a small part of the book is actually about the siege itself (which only started in 1849 and did not last all that long). I did find the part on political developments in Venice in 1848 somewhat too heavy and the parts about the military operations a bit too light; then again this is a very good book for anyone who really wants to know all about this period.
