When it first appeared in '94 this book was groundbreaking and received much deserved acclaim. There are few books on this subject and this is certainly the best one I have read. Thorough research and a sensible level of detail in history and sociology make this a reference work.

IT IS REALLY THE MOST COMPREHENSIVE & SCIENTIFIC SOCIOHISTORICAL BOOK ABOUT THIS SENSITIVE SUBJECT, NAKKASH DEPENDED ON THE MOST RELIABLE UNBIASED REFERENCES AVAILABLE IN ARABIC & OTHER LANGUAGES INCLUDING OFFICIAL OTTOMANS & COLONIAL BRITISH DOCUMENTS IN H.O. IN LONDON AS WELL AS EASTERN INDIAN COLONY DOCUMENTS.
IT IS A REAL STORY HAPPENED IN IRAQ STARTING FROM 1805 ON WARDS BY CONVERTING MOST ARAB TRIBALS OF CENTRAL & SOUTH IRAQ INTO SHI'AA SECT OF ISLAM. I READ THAT BOOK FEW YEARS AGO VIA THE INTERNET BUT JUST HAD THE BOOK TO KEEP AS A REFERENCE. IT IS THE TRUE STORY OF MY FAMILY & GRAND FATHER WHICH HAPPENED EARLY IN THE 19TH. CENTURY
BUT STILL THAT EVENT DEVIDED MY OWN FAMILY TILL TODAY.
