1.0 out of 5 stars stale philosophy presented in a dreadful way
This book has the chance of freshening up and presenting Aristotle's philosophy to a new generation, however it fails miserably. There is little introduction to the texts and no criticism. Give this a miss.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Defintive Edition of Aristotle's Works in Translation., 20 Oct 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Complete Works of Aristotle, Volume 1: The Revised Oxford Translation: Revised Oxford Translation v. 1 (Bollingen Series (General)) (Hardcover)
If, like me, you don't read Greek, this is the best set of English translations there is. If you want to have a lot of Aristotle's writings to hand, this edition of his works, in two volumes edited by Jonathan Barnes, is almost universally recognized as the best thing to get hold of. (Do not listen to the first reviewer! Aristotle's thought is very rarely stale and never easy. And we can hardly complain that there are no commentaries in this excellent edition of translations.)

5.0 out of 5 stars A real bargain, 9 April 2010

This review is from: Complete Works of Aristotle, Volume 1: The Revised Oxford Translation: Revised Oxford Translation v. 1 (Bollingen Series (General)) (Hardcover)
This volume contains all of Aristotle's logical works and many of his lesser known (or certainly lesser read) treatises. The fact that the entire collection of Aristotle's works is contained in just two volumes (the second includes the Metaphysics and Nicomachean Ethics) is remarkable, particularly as the original version consisted of 12 volumes. Every English speaking student of Aristotle should own these volumes.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Essential Collection, 3 Oct 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Complete Works of Aristotle, Volume 1: The Revised Oxford Translation: Revised Oxford Translation v. 1 (Bollingen Series (General)) (Hardcover)
Aristotle is one of the most influential figures in human history. His philosophical works, which is far from the total sum of his academic achievements, have served as a foundation for philosophy for over two millennia. Now, these works have been translated and collated into two manageable volumes. I would recommend this as an essential collection for any philosophy student, especially those with an interest in ancient philosophy.
