THIS BOOK IS OVERRATED!!, 12 May 1998
By A Customer
I just finished reading this book, and have to say it was a serious let-down in light of the reviews. Let me save you some time and money: 1) You are responsible for your own life, so do something about it. 2) Make a plan for yourself. 3) Focus on what's important. 3)You reap what you sow--so sow well. 4)Seek mutually beneficial relationships. 5) Have empathy and be considerate to others. 6)Be cooperative. 7) Take care of yourself--mind, body, and soul. ----Ground-breaking stuff, isn't it?!?! Mr. Covey is a wealthy man for this?! Hmmmmmmm.

I wish I'd bought the book rather than the audio version, 28 Feb 2001
The 7 habits was recommended to me as part of a debrief from a job interview. I hoped I could listen in on my way to work... I'm sure that the material is really good, but this audio version is deeply irritating. Too much cheesy daytime-tv music and condescending voice tones. It makes the material seem more gimmicky and corny than it evidently is. Plus it's so condensed that it's really no more than a taster. Make the time and go for the book instead... I'm sure the author would agree.

An adequate enough book that doesn't quite do it for me., 29 Nov 1999
This book bravely tries to consider the full complexity of life's challenges rather than reducing them to seven simple rules. In that sense this book is a step forward from previous books of this type. However, for me, the result is not entirely successful: there's something a bit gray and uninspiring about this book. The lack of simplistic clarity means the ideas descend into background white noise, failing to have a real impact. Conversely, many of the ideas could be accused of being rather too obvious.

A number of years, 3 Nov 2007
I read this book a number of years ago as part of a semester long class with it as the main teaching tool. From what I remember it provides good insights into time management, prioritizing tasks and breaking down a goal into bite size pieces so that a person isn't overwhelmed by the size of what needs to be done.

A chaotic, misunderstood read, 14 Jan 2001
By A Customer
Having been recommended this book by a dear friend in India, I couldn't wait to get stuck in to my copy. I found it an incredibly haphazard book, and one that I wanted to grasp the purpose of, but was unable to due to the way it was written. However, saying all that, I will attempt to read it again, I appreciate it is no "quick fix" - but how many years should I devote to reading it?I shall certainly read Stephen Covey's other books, as I respect what he is trying to communicate - but maybe in a simpler form next time - please!

Really sad for people if this revolutionizes their lives...., 8 Dec 2003
This book disappointed me. I consider it overrated. Mr. Covey uses some very interesting sounding terms (paradigm-shift, quadrant II activities, etc.) to explain rather obvious stuff: be proactive, focus on your goals and develop yourself continually. Examples in the book include most of the time a president of a company, telling Mr. Covey he could solve a problem he was struggling for years with within no-time using the ideas in this book. People to whom Mr. Covey's ideas are completely new don't become president of a company. If your life is a complete mess and everything you do fails, this book might provide you some interesting advice.

A few good ideas - but so long-winded!, 9 April 2009
This book has sold kazillions of copies so I thought it would be worth a go. And to be fair, I think the book has a few good ideas in it. For one, the book has reinforced that I need to focus on what I can change as opposed to what I can't change (but sometimes worry about). Also, he has an idea that you need to 'begin with the end in mind', which is a way of saying that you should seek every day to live the life you want to live rather than do what is expected of you. So for these insights I am grateful.
Unfortunately Covey takes a lot of words to explain his ideas and I did lose concentration about 1/2 way through the book. In addition, another thing that did annoy me is that he seems quite focused on living a godly life - it's all a little too worthy and high-brow for me overall.

very disappointing and over-rated, 11 May 2005
Well, couldn't wait to tuck into book, but alais, after struggling through the first half i realized how obvious everything was. The language is too complicated and technical and there are one too many boring stories which don't seem applicable to the situations. I have read a quite a few helpful and interesting self-help books but this one really is not an easy read of everyone and in my view is highly over-rated.

Too long winded for me. Not that impressive but it is just my humble opinion.
