... so the author states in his introduction, and so right he is. Johnson continues by saying that Jesus is also the most written about and discussed: and he likes to add to the pile, but in a very agile and lucid way, providing a short "biography" that probes with passion into a Man whose life changed the course of history.

As the subtitle certifies, this is indeed the work of a believer, so it has the consequent bias of the believer's stance, but it does not detract from the fluid writing which is superb and clearly shows a masterly love of language and history. The book is a sketch of Christ's life, as Johnson himself affirms at the beginning, but it reflects many years of reading and historical study on the author's part, and the final result is a story beautifully told, with clarity and brevity, conveying joy and commotion.
