Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I bought this book originally as part of my research for my undergraduate dissertation. It is an insightful overview of the Victorian novel, offering discussion on various aspects of the time, including publishing, and reception.

In particular, part one offers a good historical context for the reading of nineteenth century novels, focusing on issues such as literacy and readership.

This is, however, an overview, and nothing more. It has very little real insight into any specific novels and does not offer any new readings of Victorian fiction.

A very satisfying read though, and something i am sure to dip in and out of again and again.
