5.0 out of 5 stars The ruined king, 3 Dec 2012
This review is from: Bataille Reader (Wiley Blackwell Readers) (Paperback)
This is probably the most important book I ever read, in terms of my autobiographical view of myself.

Since economic forces motivate political ideas, and cultural directions, this straightforward presentation of the anti-capitalist, excessive sexual unlimited 'consumption' of all economic things is like the dark underbelly of our world.

This dark secret is what it seems like as you read it, and that is what it is meant to be. It is what it says it is, this philosophy: the hidden and unapproachable reverse face of our society.

If you follow the logic of this book, you will reach the summit of life, and also be ruined by it. The account of law, right, etc., being the best contestation of Hegel, means it is the best truest contestation of who we are: it destroys us for a higher freedom.

As a book, it contains all the main texts of Bataille. To read deeper into his work does not reveal a noticeable amount more. These are his best works, or the best selections from them.
