This is a valuable book with a novel approach. But it is exactly the same book as "How to Coach a Soccer Team: Professional Advice on Training Plans, Skill Drills, and Tactical Analysis" by the same author. Yet Amazon's suggestions state that customers who bought this book also bought "How to Coach a Soccer Team: Professional Advice on Training Plans, Skill Drills, and Tactical Analysis". And presumably sent it straight back like I am going to do!

5.0 out of 5 stars RIO FRANK JOE MICHAEL ETC, 29 Feb 2008
This review is from: How to Coach a Soccer Team: Professional Advice on Building a Winning Team (Paperback)
Excellent practical guide.

Most relevant to U13+, practical and relevent game related exercises.

The drill down problem section is a great help to any coach, identify your problem then select exercises 1+ to help.

Not many on the market as good as this.

Level 3 Coach.

4.0 out of 5 stars More great stuff from Tony Carr, 28 May 2007
This review is from: How to Coach a Soccer Team: Professional Advice on Building a Winning Team (Paperback)
Not sure what the muddle up was with another book by Carr but I bought the first Tony Carr book (down as a Rio Ferdinand book in Amazon)titled 'Youth Soccer Coaching: A Complete Guide to Building a Successful Team' and was very pleased with it (See my review).

When I saw Carr had released another book I was ecstatic and rushed to get a copy straight away. A lot of the technical practices I had seen before (or similar) but quite a few of the tactical practices gave me some new ideas I could apply to sessions.

This book is better structured than his first outing and I particularly like the problem checklist at the end which helps coaches to identify which practices will solve certain problems when the team/individual plays.

5.0 out of 5 stars excellent value for a good book, 31 Dec 2010
This review is from: How to Coach a Soccer Team: Professional Advice on Building a Winning Team (Paperback)
im in the process of waiting to be assessed for my B license but i love this book. anyone who coaches knows you cant do real sessions every week based solely on those principles of phase/game. its not realistic. this book gives you countless fairly simple to run drills that fill out your session.

each page has a drill, how to run it, what equipment you need, player numbers, a description of what is happening, then a large colourful diagram to show you how it runs. then specific coaching points to look for. its genuinely excellent.

they range from the relatively simple of "how to head on the move" all the way up to "making blind side runs into wide areas to create space". its as complex as you need it to be or its as simple as you need. whatever session your putting on, this book has a drill to give you options.

plus its by tony carr, the man is a legend when it comes to coaching. if these drills are good enough for west hams academy, they are good enough for your team.

if youve got your C badge, this is a book you need to give you ideas and spur you on. if your working with a team, this is pretty invaluable.

Well written good photos I am using most of the drills with my team and it is already paying dividends. Well worth the money.

The problem solving section is a bit like stating the obvious but someone has to do it.... well done.

I found this book to be excellent for anyone who wants to get a good grounding in how to coach a soccer team. It provides valauble basic information and suggestions for coaching at all levels and all ages. The sections are well laid out and are full of useful drills and tips. For more drills on warm-ups & small-sided games the coach will have to supplement this volume with other manuals but for a top notch starter's kit this is hard to beat. Tony obviously knows what he's talking about and he's putting his years of experience on each page. Definitely value for money.
